Policy Statement
This policy outlines the standards of professional behaviour expected at Summit Education. Maintaining clear, respectful, and appropriate boundaries is vital when working with vulnerable young people.
Core Principles
- Act with integrity, respect, and professionalism at all times
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment
- Avoid any actions that could be misinterpreted or lead to inappropriate relationships
Boundaries with Young People
- Maintain a friendly but professional relationship
- Do not share personal contact details or engage on social media
- Avoid physical contact unless necessary for safety
- Never meet a young person outside of a planned, supervised session
Language and Communication
- Use age-appropriate, respectful language
- Avoid jokes or comments that could be misunderstood
- Refrain from discussing personal matters unrelated to mentoring
Confidentiality
- Respect the privacy of young people while understanding that safeguarding concerns must always be reported
- Explain confidentiality limits from the start of mentoring
Use of Technology
- Do not communicate with young people via personal devices or social media
- Use only agreed communication channels with schools/referrers
- Ensure all session records are stored securely
Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually or in response to incidents that challenge boundaries or conduct.
